About the Artist
I’m Silas, a lifelong Alaskan who relocated to Tacoma in 2022. My early interest in wire art began with pipe cleaner crafts, but over time, my passion for psychology and social work, rooted in an intersectional feminist perspective, took center stage. After earning a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, I began working toward a Master’s in Social Work. Artistic pursuits took a backseat, except for occasional creative writing.
In 2024, my life took an abrupt shift when an uninsured driver collided with me. I walked away with a mild traumatic brain injury and an aggravated shoulder injury. Unable to return to work, I was prescribed a month of brain rest—no screens, no reading, just quiet reflection and a lot of physical therapy.
With time and frustration weighing heavily, I picked up a roll of copper wire and a few striking stones. My first wire-wrapping attempt was awkward and full of trial and error, but persistence led to wrapping my first stone—and from that moment, I was captivated by the craft.
Though jewelry-making is still new to me, each day brings new lessons and inspiration from the talented artists who share their work and knowledge. As much as I harbor anger toward that uninsured driver, I can’t overlook the silver lining: without that accident, I might never have rediscovered my creative spark.
I dream of a world where everyone has access to nourishing food, clean water, safe housing, and the freedom to live authentically. Through Curated Queer, I’m reconnecting with my creative side while holding onto my commitment to social justice and community care.
My Policies
Free Repairs
If an item gets damaged through everyday wear and tear, return it to me and I will do my best to repair it at no cost to you. If I am unable to repair it, I will replace it. Please note, each item is handmade and one-of-a-kind so replacements will not be exactly the same as the original item; I will contact you to confirm the replacement is acceptable before sending it out to you. Please contact me for instructions on how to return items for repair.
No Returns
Because this is a small operation, I simply cannot afford to take returns on items sold. If there is a problem with an item that you noticed after purchasing, I will be happy to make adjustments for free. Please contact me for instructions on how to return items for adjustments.
Communication
I do my best to respond to all emails, messages, calls, and texts as soon as possible. However, this is a one-neurodivergent-person operation. If I do not get back to you within three days, please reach out to me again.
Giving Back
At least 10% of all proceeds are donated to organizations supporting the LGBTQIA+ community or working to end homelessness - two overlapping causes when transgender people face fierce employment and housing discrimination. At this time, I am focusing on organizations that are fighting for the legal rights of transgender Americans. Please feel free to contact me if you would like more information.
Material Usage and Transparency
I do my best to use skin-friendlier materials, and disclose what kinds of materials I am using in each product in my online store. To reduce waste of finite resources, I do my best to use second-hand and recycled materials when possible, and when that is not possible, I opt for easily-recyclable materials where I can.
No Pop-Ups
Regardless if they are effective, pop-up advertisements, email lists, and even coupons are intrusive, disruptive, and not neurodivergent-friendly. I will never enable unprompted pop-ups on my website, nor will I ever intentionally launch a pop-up or otherwise highly intrusive advertising campaign on other websites.
